Fair Play Campaign Artist Commision
Nicole was a commissioned writer for RTYDS’s Class Assembly event as part of their Fair Play initiative for working class artists in theatre. She performed her commissioned poem- an artistic provocation about working class artist experience in Bradford, to the sector and local artists. The anecdotal poem ‘In and out the money’ was recorded in 2026 for their audio legacy version of the project.

Voices 2025 - North & Midlands
Selected as a finalist for the Kay Mellor Fellowship, Nicole went on to be identified for the North and Midlands cohort of BBC Voices 2025. Through the programme, she developed an original TV pilot and series outline with a BBC Development Producer, while building relationships with independent production companies. She has since completed two drafts of the screenplay developed during the programme.

Work in development- Nicole's micro-commission- Crooked Lane, an extract of an modern theatre adaptation of Bronte Classic The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is being workshopped with Rise and Howl productions and Ilkley Playhouse, commissioned by Bronte Society.

Bronte Commisioned Residency
Nicole has worked with the Bronte Society Parsonage Museum to develop a series of work based on her experience as a local writer, around the ideas of home, childhood and women's experiences. She has researched from their rare archives, delivered workshops at the Bronte Festival of Women's Writing on developing children's work ideas and sustaining writing practice, appeared on their podcast ‘Behind the Glass’ sharing a poem inspired by Anne Bronte and is developing an extract of a modern theatre adaptation of Anne’s lesser known but bitingly brilliant The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Nicole is collaborating with Ilkley Playhouse to workshop and showcase the extract.

Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice Grant Award
Nicole was awarded an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant to progress her practice as a playwright to the next level, supported by the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester. She was mentored by a leading Dramaturg, an experienced award-winning writer mentor and dramaturg, explored international and fringe theatre and wrote a new ambitious large-cast and scale play, which was workshopped with support of Sheffield Theatres with their Young Company and local actors, directed by a prominent theatre director. With additional support from Leeds 2023 Expanding Horizons programme, Nicole was able to visit New York, exploring work of scale and received mentoring from Chief Executive Producer of The Shed theatre.

University drop-out and house-sharer Jude drifts through life until one day when he accidentally opens a time portal and finds out death is coming for him. A story about friendship, grief and time. Nicole collaborated with Sheffield Theatres Young Company, responding to their wide ranging ambitions to create this fantasy comedy-drama with exciting psychedelic music and design.

My Big Cousin
My Big Cousin written by Nicole Joseph. Directed by Deborah Pakkar-Hull. Performed by Eve Midgely and Rachel Morris. Composer: Tommi Bryson, Musical Director: Tom Crathorne, Puppetry: Kathleen Yore. Nicole’s new play My Big Cousin, received a two-day development period while Nicole was on attachment as a Bank Cohort Writer at Sheffield Theatres. My Big Cousin explores the relationship between two cousins with a generational gap who try to find common ground while going on a special adventure which doesn’t quite go to plan. For ages 5+, with music and puppetry.

Come Through Festival
Butterfly written by Nicole Joseph. Directed by Amelia Thornber. Performed by Issy Adedeji and Jemma Angell. Dramaturgy: Iman Qureshi and Satinder Chohan. An extract of Nicole’s new play Butterfly, written on attachment as a Tamasha Playwright, was produced for the Come Through Festival at Tamasha’s venue Theatro Technis in London and Birmingham Hippodrome.
